On November 4, 2007 the Warren United Church embarked on a brave, new journey in fulfilling its mission in service to Jesus Christ. By an historic vote of 67 yea, 10 nay, the Warren United Church adopted the following Resolution of Inclusion: The Warren United Church, United Church of Christ holds its doors and hearts open to all who seek a deeper relationship and closer walk with Jesus Christ, regardless of race, color, creed, social and economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical abilities, mental capacities, or political convictions. The Warren United Church UCC affirms that all are made in God’s image, and it is our Christian imperative to accept, nurture, understand, learn from, promote and minister to all who seek His truth. Understanding that this resolution was not passed lightly, nor without controversy, this section seeks to document the journey to the decision and the theological basis for the decision. It is the Warren Church's hope that this window into our journey will assist other congregations in deciding if and how this issue should be addressed. The two documents describing our journey are the Reverend Susan McKnight's theological basis for adopting the resolution, and the description of the journey, written by Freddie Mahlmann, Chair of the Church Diaconate.
